Comisiones Obreras proposes minimum wage increase exceeding 5% for 2027

The Spanish labor union Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) has announced plans to propose a minimum wage (SMI) increase exceeding 5% for 2027. Union Secretary General Unai Sordo stated the union intends to be ‘ambitious’ in its proposal, noting that while macroeconomic data in Spain is positive, families face increasing costs for housing and groceries.

Sordo indicated that the union will not negotiate with the central government in the short term unless legislation is enacted to prevent minimum wage increases from being offset by other bonuses or supplements. Additionally, the union is calling for the approval of mandatory working hour records to modernize worker entry and exit tracking.

Regarding the automotive sector, CCOO expressed its intention to form a united front with public administrations to defend the Seat brand. Sordo attributed the uncertainty surrounding Seat to economic difficulties in Germany and strategic decisions by Volkswagen, which he characterized as having failed to produce expected results.
