Comiso Airport cargo area development project receives 62 million euro investment

Officials met at Palazzo d'Orléans to discuss the development of the cargo area at Comiso Airport in the Ragusa region. The project is a priority for Sicilian Regional President Renato Schifani, aimed at supporting economic growth in southwestern Sicily, an area known for high-quality agricultural production.

Technical aspects of the project include expanding the terminal, lengthening and improving the runway, creating a logistics area, and enhancing external road networks. The Sicilian Region has confirmed an initial commitment of 46 million euros from the Cohesion and Development Fund (Fsc). With additional support to meet rising needs, the total investment is expected to reach 62 million euros, with co-participation from the airport management company, Sac.

By the first week of October, land cadastral issues regarding regional property within the airport perimeter are expected to be resolved to facilitate the transfer of these lands to the national state property. The meeting included representatives from the regional government, the Mayor of Comiso, Sac, Enac, and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
