Comiso Airport expansion and infrastructure development

Overview

Comiso Airport in Sicily is undergoing significant operational and infrastructural expansions. In early September 2026, the airport announced an expansion of its flight routes for the 2026/2027 winter season. Supported by a 3 million euro investment from the Sicilian Region, Aeroitalia secured a contract to provide eight additional weekly flights starting in October, connecting the airport to Malta, Naples, and Venice.

Simultaneously, a major infrastructure project was initiated to improve road connectivity for the airport. A contract worth €48.27 million, funded by the Development and Cohesion Fund (FSC), was signed to modernize approximately 6.3 kilometers of roads. This project aims to link the SS 115 highway to the SP 4 roundabout, strengthening the connection between the airport and the SS 514 Ragusa-Catania axis. Construction is expected to begin in early October and last approximately 900 days.
