Commemorations held for victims of World War II massacres in Croatia

Commemorations were held to honor victims of mass killings committed during World War II in the Dubrovnik and Western Slavonia regions.

On the island of Daksi near Dubrovnik, ceremonies were conducted to remember 53 citizens executed by Yugoslav partisans in October 1944. The victims included prominent intellectuals, journalists, and the priest Petar Perica. Officials from the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County attended the memorial, where wreaths were laid at a memorial cross. Organizers noted the ongoing importance of seeking truth regarding the victims and the search for a third undiscovered mass grave on the island.

In Western Slavonia, a prayer service was held in the village of Kukunjevac to mark the anniversary of the massacre of 667 Serbs. During the war, forces from the Independent State of Croatia killed 243 men in the village using various weapons, while survivors were deported to camps such as Jasenovac. The memorial service was led by Bishop Jovan of Pakrac and Slavonia.
