Commemorative events organized in Germany to honor victims of Nazi persecution

Various commemorative activities are being organized in Germany to honor victims of National Socialism. In Bad Sobernheim, the local heritage museum is hosting a guided tour titled ‘Forgotten Destinies’ on November 8, 2026. The tour aims to highlight the lives and contributions of former Jewish citizens to the community, while also remembering the November Pogroms of 1938. The event will also honor Hans-Eberhard Berkemann, a long-time advocate for the preservation of the local synagogue.

Additionally, the SPD-AG 60plus in the Oberpfalz region is organizing a memorial trip on November 2, 2026, to the Hartheim Memorial and Learning Site near Linz. The site was a location for mass killings via gas chambers between 1940 and 1944, primarily targeting psychiatric patients and people with disabilities under the ‘Aktion T4’ program. The trip includes departures from Weiden and Schwandorf.
