Commercial electric vehicle industry sees major battery and truck advancements

At the IAA Transportation show in Germany, several major developments in the commercial electric vehicle sector were announced. Volvo Trucks’ heavy-duty electric range, including the FH, FM, and FMX Electric models, was named International Truck of the Year 2027. The company is also preparing to launch the VNX, a next-generation vocational and heavy-haul truck designed specifically for the North American construction and infrastructure markets.

In battery technology, Chinese manufacturer CATL unveiled its TECTRANS II modular battery platform. Designed for commercial vehicles, the heavy-duty version offers a range of up to 1,000 kilometers and supports megawatt-level charging, capable of reaching an 80% charge in 25 minutes. The platform aims to reduce commercial vehicle development cycles by approximately 50%.

In Southeast Asia, the upcoming 14th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit will focus on regional cooperation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Industry leaders emphasize that building an electric vehicle ecosystem requires cross-border policy alignment and integrated supply chains across member nations like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
