Common exercise mistakes that increase injury risk

Experts have identified five common mistakes in exercise routines that can increase the risk of injury and exhaustion.

First, increasing intensity too quickly can lead to overuse injuries, as tendons and joints adapt more slowly than muscles and cardiovascular fitness. Second, skipping warm-ups can cause stiffness and injury; a 5-10 minute light aerobic session is recommended. Third, the ‘more is better’ mentality can be counterproductive, as muscles and connective tissues require adequate recovery time to grow and adapt.

Fourth, improper technique during exercises like squats or lunges can place undue pressure on the knees, back, shoulders, and neck. Finally, ignoring pain during physical activity is a significant risk factor. Seeking professional guidance is advised to ensure correct form and prevent long-term issues.
