Common nutritional myths and dietary recommendations
Scientific evidence challenges several common misconceptions regarding nutrition and health. Contrary to the myth that all fats are harmful, unsaturated fats found in nuts, avocados, and olive oil are essential for cardiovascular health and vitamin absorption. While trans fats and saturated fats should be limited, healthy fats play a vital role in satiety and bodily functions.
Regarding weight management, the timing of food consumption is less critical than total caloric intake and nutritional composition. Eating after 18:00 does not inherently cause weight gain, as the metabolism continues to function throughout the night.
Furthermore, carbohydrates are necessary energy sources for brain and muscle function. Rather than total avoidance, experts suggest reducing simple carbohydrates like white sugar and refined flour in favor of complex carbohydrates like whole grains. Highly processed foods, such as white toast and vegan nuggets, are discouraged due to low nutrient density, high levels of additives, and potential pesticide residues.
