Argentina marks National Deaf Day with inclusion initiatives

Various institutions and communities across Argentina are holding events to commemorate National Deaf Day, observed on September 19. These activities aim to promote inclusion, visibility, and the rights of the deaf community.

In the Esquel and Trevelin regions, Escuela N. º 518 is organizing a two-week program including hearing screenings for children, awareness talks regarding Argentine Sign Language (LSA), and a community walk. In Zárate, a public event at Plaza Mitre will focus on communication accessibility and the recognition of LSA as a natural language.

Educational and cultural initiatives are also underway. The Faculty of Education at UNCuyo hosted a film screening and debate centered on deaf identity and communication. Meanwhile, in Neuquén, the deaf community is working with the Subsecretaría de Discapacidad at the Universidad Nacional del Comahue to adapt the Neuquén Provincial Anthem into LSA, ensuring the musical metaphors are accurately represented through sign language.
