Community health initiatives expand medical access in Senegal

Community health initiatives are expanding access to medical services in various regions of Senegal. In Kaffrine, specifically within the Nganda and Kélimane health posts, community health workers from the Foundation for a Healthier Senegal (FOHSEN) conducted 884 home visits during August. These efforts allowed for the evaluation of 809 patients, focusing on reducing barriers such as distance from health facilities and transportation difficulties. Notably, follow-ups for pregnant women increased by 42.3% in one month, rising from 246 in July to 350 in August.

In Saint-Louis, a collaborative health event at the Diamaguène-Léona-HLM health post provided free circumcision services to 105 children. The initiative was organized by the association Unis pour la Promotion et la Protection de la Famille (U2PF) and the Léona/HLM Neighborhood Council, with medical support from Medisol International. The program exceeded its initial goal of 100 beneficiaries and included the distribution of new clothing to patients to support vulnerable families.
