Community initiatives launch medication collection and donation programs
Various community initiatives are being launched in Argentina and Mexico to manage unused or expired medications.
In Concepción del Uruguay, Argentina, the Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Entre Ríos, the Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos, and the local municipality are organizing a collection campaign on October 20. The event aims to promote responsible disposal of tablets, syrups, creams, and drops to prevent environmental contamination of water and ecosystems. The campaign will take place at Plaza Ramírez and Plaza Rocamora, though sharps and needles will not be accepted.
In Cancún, Mexico, the association Recolectando Felicidad is launching a program to collect donated medications for low-income individuals. The initiative, which involves 30 universities and business allies, seeks to establish a medical dispensary. The program aims to address rising private sector drug prices and will require medical prescriptions for antibiotics and controlled substances to prevent misuse. The association also plans to extend support to inmates at the local Cereso rehabilitation center.
