Community initiatives support elderly inclusion in Brazil and Portugal
In Várzea Grande, Brazil, the Vovô Zeid Coexistence Center is hosting a Documentation Week to provide free services for the elderly. The initiative aims to help seniors regularize essential documents, such as identity cards (RG) and marriage certificates, to ensure access to social rights and benefits. Local officials and the Association of Natural Person Registrars (Arpen) emphasized that the program promotes dignity and citizenship for vulnerable elderly populations.
In Vila Verde, Portugal, the Centro Social Vale do Homem (CSVH) has received an honorable mention in the SME EnterPRIZE sustainability awards for its TREVO project. This intergenerational initiative connects elderly residents with rural knowledge to young people with disabilities and mental health conditions. By teaching traditional agricultural practices and crafts, the project promotes environmental sustainability, circular economy, and social inclusion.
