Social inclusion initiatives in Brazil and Portugal

Overview

Social inclusion and accessibility initiatives have been implemented in Brazil and Portugal, targeting various vulnerable populations.

In Brazil and Portugal, community programs have focused on elderly support. In Várzea Grande, Brazil, the Vovô Zeid Coexistence Center organized a Documentation Week to help seniors obtain essential identity and marriage documents to secure social rights. In Vila Verde, Portugal, the TREVO project was recognized for its intergenerational approach, connecting elderly residents with young people with disabilities through the teaching of traditional agricultural and craft skills.

Efforts have also expanded to broader accessibility. In Brazil, the Semias organization worked with companies through job fairs and the ‘Empresa Amiga da Inclusão’ program to improve professional inclusion and service access for people with disabilities. Meanwhile, Portugal’s Associação Salvador launched the ‘Outubro Acessível’ campaign, which utilizes workshops, sign language training, and virtual assistant tools to promote concrete accessibility actions across schools and businesses.
