Regional security and community prevention initiatives in Latin America

Various regional authorities in Latin America are implementing diverse programs focused on public safety, community prevention, and social development.

In Argentina, the Chaco Ministry of Security launched ‘Operativo Caminante’ in Resistencia, deploying 460 future police and penitentiary officers to increase territorial presence. In Buenos Aires province, a new strategic road safety education plan has been established for schools and municipalities to promote responsible mobility. Additionally, the ‘Ciudadanía Joven’ program in Tigre is coordinating efforts between judicial, security, and educational sectors to support youth at risk of legal conflict.

In Peru, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ica Police Region conducted technical training for 250 future officers, focusing on community prevention and citizen engagement. Meanwhile, law students in Lima visited the National Specialized Subsistema in Asset Forfeiture (SNEED) to study judicial mechanisms used against organized crime and corruption.

Other regional efforts include Venezuela’s ‘El Policía va a la Escuela’ program, which uses recreational activities to foster civic values in children, and community leadership certification by SENDA Previene in Iquique, Chile, to strengthen local crime prevention. In Mexico, the ‘Calle por Cancha’ sports tournament in Saltillo aims to reduce tensions among youth groups through community engagement.
