Madrid demands urgent review of VioGén gender violence risk system

The Community of Madrid has formally requested an urgent, in-depth review of the VioGén system, the Ministry of the Interior's protocol for monitoring victims of gender-based violence. This demand follows findings that four of the eight women murdered in the region over the past year were classified as low risk by the system. Regional officials noted that only 1% of the 12,851 active cases in Madrid are categorized as high or extreme risk, which determines the level of police surveillance.

Counselors Miguel Ángel García Martín and Ana Dávila highlighted the need to update outdated evaluation questionnaires and algorithms. They also raised concerns regarding a shortage of specialized police personnel and technical failures in anti-abuse bracelets, noting 40 potential malfunctions last year. Four previous requests for systemic revisions remain unanswered by the relevant ministries.

In a separate political development, Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso has intensified her campaign ahead of the November 29 general elections. She accused Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of attempting to manipulate the electoral process through irregularities in postal voting. Additionally, Ayuso has called for investigations into whether the housing protest camp in Puerta del Sol is being influenced by radical groups with alleged pro-Palestinian terrorist links.
