Community organizations in Germany seek more volunteers

Local organizations in Germany are highlighting the critical need for volunteers to maintain essential community services.

At the sports club TuS Kachtenhausen, the importance of unpaid work is emphasized, noting that volunteers are responsible for everything from maintaining playing fields and organizing referees to managing administrative tasks and tournament planning. These individuals provide the foundation that allows youth sports programs to function.

In Ebersberg, the association ‘Schwungrad’ is facing a shortage of helpers for its senior assistance services. Since 2011, the group has provided transportation for medical appointments and shopping, as well as companionship for elderly residents to help them maintain independence. Despite serving approximately 180 members, the association currently operates with only twelve volunteers, prompting calls for more community support.
