Community reforestation efforts launched in Costa Rica and Spain
In Costa Rica, the Ara Manzanillo project is organizing a reforestation day at Playa Manzanillo to plant 100 trees. The initiative aims to combat coastal erosion and restore wildlife habitats. Due to noticeable land loss from rising sea levels between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo, trees will be planted at a prudent distance from the shoreline to ensure survival. The event involves several local organizations, including Jaguar Rescue Center, the NGO Trópica Verde, and the Asociación Guardianes del Bosque.
In Spain, a restoration initiative took place along the banks of the Tagus River in Toledo. Supported by the ‘La Caixa’ Foundation and CaixaBank, volunteers and students from local educational centers participated in cleaning activities and planting 35 trees, including 13 cypresses. During the session, participants collected 142 kilograms of trash. Toledo Mayor Carlos Velázquez emphasized that while administrative and corporate actions are vital, long-term environmental protection depends on raising civic awareness among the youth.
