Community transport services expand for elderly and disabled in Italy

Local community services in Italy are expanding to support elderly and disabled residents. In Mozzo, the Trasporto Amico ODV association is seeking volunteers to meet a significant surge in demand. Requests for assistance in the Mozzo and Curno areas have risen from 60 to approximately 200 per week between 2024 and 2026. The service provides transportation for medical appointments, therapies, and social integration, utilizing a fleet of eight vehicles.

In Alcamo, a new free accompaniment service is launching to assist elderly residents with mobility issues and people with disabilities in visiting cemeteries. Managed by the Associazione Pubblica Assistenza Soccorso Alcamo ODV, the service includes door-to-door transport to ensure residents can visit gravesites of loved ones. This initiative is part of a co-design project between the municipality and third-sector entities scheduled to run through 2027.
