Comodoro Rivadavia allocates 5 bn pesos and secures new housing plan after Cerro Hermitte landslide

The municipality of Comodoro Rivadavia committed 5 billion Argentine pesos to address the damage from the Cerro Hermitte landslide on 18 January. The funds cover the purchase of 50 homes (2.102 bn pesos), urgent rental subsidies (2.015 bn pesos), technical assistance contracts (481 m pesos) and other supplies (341 m pesos). The city also funded a detailed technical survey of more than 100 affected properties, spending 1 m peso per inspection.

Governor Ignacio Torres and Mayor Othar Macharashvili signed an agreement to complete the provincial housing program and add municipal resources. The province will finish 52 homes in construction and build 50 new units, delivering the first 27 homes within ten days. The municipality will construct another 50 homes of its own. Together they will provide 124 serviced lots in the Fracción 14 area and 30 additional serviced lots from the city. Credit lines for mortgage refinancing and home improvements were also announced, and technical studies for extending services to the nearby YPF Kilómetro 3 zone are underway. Stabilisation work on the hill’s slope in the Médanos neighbourhood is being carried out by contracted firms using municipal machinery.
