Competition Commission of Pakistan to hold hearing on real estate sector concerns

The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has scheduled an open hearing for August 27 to investigate competition concerns and deceptive practices within the real estate sector. The commission aims to address issues such as false or misleading claims regarding project approvals, hidden charges, and the misrepresentation of property features.

The hearing follows various complaints received by the CCP regarding anti-competitive behavior. The commission noted that misleading information can significantly impact investment decisions, often leading to serious financial consequences for consumers. Under Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010, deceptive marketing practices that harm consumers or business interests are prohibited.

Stakeholders, including consumers, investors, developers, builders, and industry associations, have been invited to share their experiences and concerns directly with the commission. The CCP intends to use the submissions to formulate opinions and recommendations regarding market practices and competition.
