Conagua fines Sideapa for wastewater discharges in Nazas River

The National Water Commission (Conagua) has fined the Decentralized System of Potable Water and Sewerage (Sideapa) of Gómez Palacio up to 250,000 pesos following the discovery of irregular wastewater discharges into the dry bed of the Nazas River.

During inspections, authorities located a large, unauthorized pipe that had been installed approximately two to three months prior. The discharges contained residues potentially linked to the dairy and textile industries, the exact composition of which will be confirmed through laboratory analysis. Conagua has ordered the permanent closure of the pipe and the removal of accumulated contaminated water from the riverbed.

The incident has caused significant health concerns for residents in nine neighborhoods near Torreón, who reported foul odors and unsanitary conditions. Sideapa has begun sanitation efforts, including using pumping equipment and lime to mitigate the impact, while Conagua continues to supervise the cleanup and corrective measures.
