Conakry building collapse kills at least four in Hafia

A five-story building under construction collapsed in the Hafia 1 neighborhood of Conakry during the night of August 10-11, 2026. The collapse, which occurred around 2:00 AM, also impacted a neighboring villa. Preliminary official reports indicate that at least four to five people died and nine others were injured in the incident.

Emergency services, civil protection, and officials from the Ministry of Urbanism, Housing, and Land Management were deployed to the site to conduct search and rescue operations. Authorities have restricted access to the area to secure the perimeter.

This tragedy follows a similar incident in the Demoudoula district in mid-July, where a nine-story building collapse resulted in eight deaths. In response to these recurring disasters, Djénabou Touré, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, announced that the government will soon implement a decision to evacuate residents from high-risk zones, either voluntarily or by force, based on existing technical studies.
