Conalep in Chihuahua finds major gaps in math and English among new students

Diagnostic exams administered to incoming students at the Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica (Conalep) in the state of Chihuahua revealed significant weaknesses in mathematics and English. Director General Omar Bazán emphasized that “nos queda claro que hay que reforzar matemáticas” and stressed the need to improve English proficiency beyond basic levels.

Around 280 students achieved the highest English proficiency (B2/B1) and will be placed in bilingual classrooms to avoid regression to basic instruction. To address the deficits, Conalep will run a three‑week strengthening program in early August covering mathematics, English, socio‑emotional training, physical activation, and content on systems and artificial intelligence. An induction week is scheduled for the last week of August before classes begin on 31 August.
