Conca d'Oro shopping center in Palermo faces gradual reopening after fire

Following a major fire at the Conca d'Oro shopping center in Palermo, officials are planning a gradual reopening of the facility. Preliminary assessments from firefighters indicate that approximately 70% to 80% of the building did not suffer direct damage, allowing for a potential partial reopening in the near term. Areas affected by roof collapses and debris will remain inaccessible for the medium term.

Palermo Mayor Roberto Lagalla stated that institutional efforts are focused on providing financial and employment support to the approximately 1,500 workers and families impacted by the incident. Meetings involving the regional labor department, Inps, and trade unions are being held to stabilize economic support for those affected.

The Prosecutor's Office of Palermo has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. While no specific crime has been charged, initial findings from the fire department suggest that arson may be unlikely, with investigators looking into potential malfunctions in the building's rooftop systems.
