Conca d'Oro shopping center partially reopens in Palermo
The Conca d'Oro shopping center in Palermo has partially reopened to the public after being closed for over a month following a fire. The reopening specifically covers the “white zone” of the complex, which was visited by Mayor Roberto Lagalla and Regional Assessor Edy Tamajo.
Despite the reopening, significant concerns remain regarding the “red zone,” which remains inaccessible. This area suffered the most damage from the fire, and the retailer Risparmio Casa is expected to relocate rather than reopen its location.
Labor unions, including Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl, and Uiltucs Uil, boycotted the reopening ceremony. The organizations stated that they did not view the event as a celebration, citing the precarious employment situation for workers in the affected zones. They expressed deep concern for employees facing job losses or those whose fixed-term contracts have not been renewed due to the ongoing crisis.
