Concepción authorities investigate death of 2-year-old girl

Authorities in Concepción, Paraguay, have launched an investigation following the death of a 2-year-old girl in the San Luis neighborhood of Arroyito. The child, identified as Ailene Benítez Bogado, reportedly died in her sleep after suffering from gastrointestinal discomfort.

The child's mother, 20-year-old Nahiara Bogado, stated that she sought treatment from a naturalist practitioner rather than a medical doctor. The mother believed the child was suffering from traditional ailments known as ‘kambyrujere’ or ‘py’aruru’. According to her account, the practitioner suggested the pain was caused by ‘sevo’i’ in the stomach and recommended massages and prayers instead of medication.

When the mother discovered the child was unresponsive, she rushed her to the Hospital Regional de Concepción, where medical staff confirmed she had no vital signs. Prosecutor Arnaldo Argüello, representing the Ministerio Público, has ordered an autopsy at the judicial morgue in Asunción to determine the exact cause of death, as local forensic doctors were unable to establish the cause of death on-site.
