Concepción del Uruguay collects nearly 30 kg of expired medications
For the third consecutive year, the Campaign for the Collection of Expired or Unused Home Medications was held in Concepción del Uruguay, Argentina. The event took place simultaneously at Plaza Ramírez and Plaza Rocamora.
The initiative was organized by the College of Pharmacists of Entre Ríos (COFAER), the Collective Health Program of the Faculty of Health Sciences (UNER), and the Municipality of Concepción del Uruguay. The campaign successfully collected 29.5 kilograms of medications intended for disposal.
To ensure environmental and public safety, the collected drugs are handed over to specialized companies for destruction via pyrolytic ovens. Organizers emphasized that medications should never be thrown in common trash, toilets, or drains, as active ingredients can contaminate water sources and ecosystems. Residents can continue to dispose of such waste year-round at designated containers located at Hospitalito, the Rocamora Health Center, and the Centro Integrador Comunitario (CIC).
