Conceptos Plásticos uses recycled plastic to build houses in five days
Conceptos Plásticos, a Colombian company founded in 2010, has developed an innovative construction method using interlocking blocks made from recycled plastic. This technology allows for the assembly of a family home in just five days, using materials that are approximately 40 percent cheaper than traditional options.
The system functions similarly to building blocks, eliminating the need for traditional bricks and mortar. The plastic blocks are designed to be durable, waterproof, and possess insulating properties, with the ability to withstand strong winds.
Beyond residential housing, the technology is being utilized for schools and temporary shelters. For instance, UNICEF is currently implementing projects in Ivory Coast using these non-PVC plastic materials to facilitate rapid and efficient construction.
