Scientific research and innovation initiatives expand in Peru
Scientific research and outreach initiatives are gaining momentum in Peru through academic and institutional collaborations. The Scientific Outreach Group (CIDES), composed of biologists from the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco (UNSAAC), is preparing to participate in the VI Annual Convention of Biology Students of Cusco (EXPOBIO 2026). The event, scheduled for October 21-23, aims to facilitate knowledge exchange through conferences, symposia, and research presentations.
In a separate effort to bridge the gap between academia and industry, the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (Concytec) and the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) organized the 'Desayuna Innovación: Empresa + Ciencia' meeting. During this event, ten researchers presented doctoral developments with commercial potential, including innovations in food science using Andean crops, biomaterials from fishery waste, water treatment technologies, and 3D-printed biomedical materials. The initiative seeks to connect scientific prototypes with business sectors to foster economic competitiveness and technological scaling.
