Innovation and investment growth in Peru
Overview
Peru is experiencing growth in its venture capital and scientific innovation sectors through various investment and academic initiatives.
In mid-October, the venture capital market reported a 63% increase, supported by the 11th Peru Venture Capital Conference (PVCC26) during Peru Tech Week. The event featured matchmaking opportunities to connect local investors with institutional partners from Mexico, Brazil, and the United States. While 93.7% of venture capital currently originates from abroad, research suggests demand for startup financing could exceed $1.106 billion between 2026 and 2030. To support this, the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas launched an Open Innovation Program through Start UPC to link academic research in health and education with corporate needs.
Efforts to scale scientific research have also intensified. The National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (Concytec) and the Lima Chamber of Commerce organized the ‘Desayuna Innovación: Empresa + Ciencia’ meeting, where researchers presented doctoral developments in food science, biomaterials, and water treatment. Additionally, the Scientific Outreach Group (CIDES) prepared for the EXPOBIO 2026 convention in Cusco to facilitate knowledge exchange.
Furthering regional development, the Ministry of Production, via ProInnóvate, announced over S/ 4 million in non-reimbursable public funding. This initiative targets entrepreneurs, startups, and MSMEs across seven regions—including Arequipa, Cusco, and Piura—to help validate prototypes and transform innovations into marketable solutions.
