CONFIEP urges respect for Peru election results as candidate claims fraud

The Confederación Nacional de Instituciones Empresariales Privadas (CONFIEP) denounced statements by presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez, who said he would not recognize results that favor Keiko Fujimori and alleged a "fraud in development" without evidence. CONFIEP said the claims “generate uncertainty, weaken democratic institutionalism and favor an unnecessary prolongation of the official proclamation process,” and urged all political forces to respect the popular will expressed in the polls.

The business federation highlighted Peru’s pressing challenges – the approaching El Niño phenomenon, a severe security crisis, and major economic and social tasks – that require a stable and legitimate government from day one. It recalled a similar call for respect of the 2021 election results and reiterated its commitment to democratic institutions and an orderly transition.
