Congo Terminal advances construction of electric Môle Est terminal

Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics), is progressing with the construction of the Môle Est at the Port of Pointe-Noire. The project, which began in 2024, aims to establish a 100% electric container terminal scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2027.

The new 27-hectare facility will feature a -17 meter draft, allowing it to accommodate large international container ships up to 400 meters in length and 24,000 TEU capacity. To reduce direct emissions, the terminal will utilize fully electric handling equipment, including ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, electric rubber-tyred gantry (e-RTG) cranes, and electric terminal tractors.

Sustainability measures are integrated into the design, including solar water heating and water reuse systems. The administrative building is currently being evaluated for EDGE Advanced certification. The investment is part of a broader strategy by Congo Terminal to modernize port infrastructure to meet growing containerized cargo demands and evolving maritime standards.
