Congress of Puebla approves human rights training for legislators

The Human Rights Commission of the Congress of Puebla has approved a proposal to implement human rights awareness workshops for members of the LXII Legislature. The initiative aims to provide legislators with updated tools and conceptual frameworks to strengthen the protection and respect of fundamental guarantees within their legislative duties.

Under the agreement, the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and the Puebla Human Rights Commission (CDH) would conduct these training sessions at least twice a year. The workshops are intended to improve legislative discourse and promote perspectives on inclusion, aligning with constitutional obligations to promote and guarantee human rights.

Roberto Zataráin Leal, president of the commission, noted that while the training is timely, participation will be voluntary as no sanctions or mandatory mechanisms have been established for the legislators. He clarified that the initiative was already on the commission's agenda and is not a direct response to recent controversies involving specific legislators.
