Congress seeks permission for Rahul Gandhi event in Indore stadium

A political dispute has emerged in Indore regarding the use of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the proposed ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ program. Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari has written to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav requesting immediate permission to host the event on September 12.

Patwari emphasized that the program, which may feature Rahul Gandhi, is not a standard political rally but a dialogue focused on critical issues such as the right to education, youth aspirations, and the security of the education system. He noted that as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi’s engagement with students carries significant national importance.

The request follows opposition from local authorities. Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav stated that High Court orders restrict the stadium to sports activities or state-level government programs. In response, local Congress leaders have threatened protests if the venue is denied. The party aims to mobilize approximately 50,000 students to discuss issues including paper leaks, expensive education, and unemployment.
