Education initiatives advance in Uruguay and Argentina
Various educational developments are underway across the region. In Uruguay, the Administration Nacional de Educación Pública (ANEP) has presented a preliminary project for the new Liceo N.º 2 in Piriápolis. The project, which has been a community demand for over a decade, involves an estimated investment of 120 million pesos. Construction is expected to begin in March 2027, with the facility aiming to open in early 2028 to alleviate overcrowding at Liceo N.º 1.
In Argentina, several initiatives are targeting teacher professional development. The Consejo General de Educación (CGE) has launched a virtual training cycle for mathematics teachers within the 'Secundarias Innovadoras' network. This program focuses on project-based learning and improving mathematical literacy through collaborative teaching. Additionally, the government of Chubut concluded a training cohort focused on the pedagogical integration of Artificial Intelligence in classrooms, held in Trelew.
Other academic activities include the provincial stage of the ATACALAR 2026 International Mathematics Olympiad in Tucumán, involving over 400 primary students, and the presentation of ethnomathematics research by academics at an international conference in Peru.
