Mathematics education initiatives in Argentina

Argentina has initiated specialized mathematics training programs in the provinces of Entre Ríos and Jujuy to improve student learning outcomes and teacher pedagogical tools.

In Entre Ríos, the Consejo General de Educación (CGE) introduced the “Compromiso Federal por la Matemática” program. This 150-hour hybrid initiative focuses on the transition between primary and secondary education through problem-solving methodologies. Following this, the CGE launched a virtual training component within the Red de Secundarias Innovadoras. This specific phase includes a series of sessions for teachers of the Ciclo Básico Común, covering topics such as geometry, probability, and statistics, while emphasizing project-based teaching and formative evaluation.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education in Jujuy has been advancing the “Matemáticas Somos Red” plan, which utilizes collaborative institutional work to address local educational realities.

Recent developments show the continued expansion of these professional development efforts. The CGE has progressed with its virtual training cycle for mathematics teachers within the ‘Secundarias Innovadoras’ network, emphasizing collaborative teaching and mathematical literacy through project-based learning. Additionally, broader mathematical engagement is noted in Tucumán, where the provincial stage of the ATACALAR 2026 International Mathematics Olympiad involved more than 400 primary students.
