Consortium market expands among high-income investors in Brazil
The consortium market in Brazil is expanding its reach, increasingly attracting high-income individuals, entrepreneurs, and investors. Once viewed primarily as a way to purchase vehicles or real estate through installments, the modality is now being utilized as a tool for large-scale acquisition planning and wealth organization.
According to the Brazilian Association of Consortium Administrators (ABAC), the sector saw significant growth in 2025, with 5.16 million quotas sold—a 15% increase from the previous year. The total volume of credit traded reached R$ 500.27 billion, a 32.1% rise, while active participants reached 12.76 million. This upward trend continued into 2026, with active participants hitting a record 12.94 million in April.
Financial institutions that traditionally focused on investment applications are now including consortiums in their portfolios. Experts, including Dan Silva of Prefiro Consórcio, note that this shift indicates a change in perception, as the product is no longer seen solely as an alternative for those unable to secure traditional financing, but as a strategic credit tool for those with significant assets.
