Constanța reports 130 cases of Hepatitis A across 23 outbreaks
The Constanța Public Health Directorate (DSP) has reported 130 cases of Hepatitis A across 23 active outbreaks in Constanța County, Romania. The number of outbreaks has increased significantly, rising sevenfold within a single month from three initial family-related clusters in the Hârșova area.
Of the active outbreaks, 15 are classified as familial, five are community-based, and three involve spread within collective environments. One outbreak was recorded at a community service complex, and another occurred in a collective setting. While the DSP notes that the total number of cases does not exceed levels seen in previous years, health authorities have intensified surveillance and prevention measures.
Medical professionals, including Dr. Claudia Cambrea, manager of the Constanța Infectious Diseases Hospital, emphasize the importance of rigorous hygiene, such as frequent handwashing. Although vaccination is a recommended preventive measure, it is not currently included in the National Vaccination Calendar, and no funds are presently available for free vaccinations in the county. Health officials advise monitoring for symptoms such as fever, nausea, loss of appetite, and abdominal discomfort.
