Constitutional Court mandates color labels for sugar, salt, and fat
The Constitutional Court of Indonesia has ruled that food and beverage businesses are now required to include color-coded labels and symbols on packaging to indicate levels of sugar, salt, and fat.
Through Decision Number 110/PUU-XXIV/2026, the Court modified the interpretation of the Consumer Protection Law and the Health Law. The ruling mandates that businesses provide true, clear, honest, and adequate information regarding the contents of their products to help consumers make effective dietary choices and mitigate health risks.
Additionally, the Court clarified that both central and local governments are responsible for regulating and supervising the production, processing, and distribution of food and beverages, ensuring that these mandatory nutritional labels are implemented.
