Indonesia nutritional labeling mandate

Overview

The Constitutional Court of Indonesia has issued a ruling requiring food and beverage businesses to include color-coded labels and symbols on product packaging. This mandate aims to indicate levels of sugar, salt, and fat to assist consumers in making effective dietary choices and mitigating health risks.

Through Decision Number 110/PUU-XXIV/2026, the Court modified the interpretation of the Consumer Protection Law and the Health Law to ensure businesses provide “true, clear, honest, and adequate information” regarding product contents. The ruling also clarifies that both central and local governments are responsible for the regulation and supervision of the production, processing, and distribution of food and beverages to ensure compliance with these mandatory labels.
