Construction begins on Ho Chi Minh City's Metro Line 2 first underground station

Ho Chi Minh City has moved its Metro Line 2 (Bến Thành‑Tham Lương) project from the preparation phase to direct construction. Work started on the Phạm Văn Bạch underground station (ST10) on Cong Hòa street, where crews are installing a 534‑metre wall‑sheath that will protect subsequent tunnelling activities. The wall work is expected to take about six months and will allow the two tunnel‑boring machines to begin drilling.

The station is one of two key underground stops on the 11‑km line, which will feature ten underground stations, one elevated section and a depot, with completion targeted for 2030. The new metro line aims to enhance public‑transport connectivity across the city centre, reduce road traffic pressure and support urban development. Construction sites have been cordoned off, traffic redirected, and safety measures emphasized to minimise disruption to surrounding residents and commuters.
