Vietnam transport July 2026 – highways, bridges, projects
Entities: Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee · National Road 32 · Cần Thơ People’s Committee · Nguyễn Văn Hòa · Pham Gia Túc
Overview
The Ministry of Construction continues to push major road and bridge works while grappling with land‑acquisition gaps and material shortages. In Lam Dong, the Tan Phú‑Bảo Lộc and Bảo Lộc‑Liên Khương expressways are at 45 % and 68 % land‑acquisition, targeting September clearance. The 77‑km Ho Chi Minh City–Lâm Đồng coastal highway (DT994) remains delayed by sand and stone shortages, with full completion still aimed for the end of 2026. A 3.5‑km coastal‑erosion control project near Hoi An progresses toward its 31 August 2026 deadline. Hanoi is fast‑tracking eight river over‑pass bridges for the July 2027 APEC summit; the Tu Lien bridge has cleared land, while the Thượng Cát bridge lags at about 10 % completion. The city also issued Directive 16 to start all 114 approved social‑housing projects before year‑end, targeting up to 27 000 apartments and halving processing times via a “green‑lane” mechanism. In Ho Chi Minh City, planners have revised the 35.1 km Metro Line 2, adding elevated and underground stations and shifting part of the route onto Ngô Chí Quốc Road; construction is slated to begin by the end of 2026 with a 2030 completion target. The city is now installing covered walkways that link metro stations with bus stops and nearby public venues. The first canopy at An Phú station, 2.8 m high and 2.4 m wide with LED lighting and benches, is due in July 2026, with similar structures planned for Thảo Điền, Văn Thánh Park, the university, Thủ Đức and Ben Thanh Market. A 6 km dedicated container road connecting the Cát Lái–Phú Hữu port complex to Ring Road 3 and the TP.HCM‑Long Thanh‑Dầu Giây highway will start in Q4 2026 (VND 8.8 trillion) and should cut container travel time to 10‑15 minutes.
