Construction‑related gas leaks force evacuations in Linkenheim‑Hochstetten and Koblenz, Germany

On June 2, a construction accident damaged a gas pipeline in the Hochstetten district of Linkenheim‑Hochstetten, prompting the fire service to evacuate about 20 residents. The leak was isolated, the pipe was shut off quickly, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters, rescue crews and police secured the area and residents returned to their homes after the danger passed.

A similar incident occurred in Koblenz, where excavation work on Hohenfelder Straße ruptured a gas line and also damaged a 20‑kilovolt electricity cable. Police cleared a 100‑metre safety zone and advised occupants to stay indoors. Power was briefly interrupted but restored shortly after. A fire‑service information point was set up for the public, and normal commercial activity outside the exclusion zone continued.
