Consum invests €12.4 million in Barcelona reverse logistics center

The Valencian cooperative Consum has launched a new reverse logistics platform in Barcelona’s Zona Franca, representing an investment of €12.4 million. The facility, covering more than 9,330 square meters, is designed to improve the recovery, classification, and reuse of materials from the company’s supermarket network.

The center focuses on managing commercial waste by organizing the return of materials from points of sale to classification and reuse hubs. Monthly capacity includes the management of 800 tons of cardboard, 50 tons of plastic, 140,000 pallets, and 800,000 reusable containers through an automated system integrated with Euro Pool System.

This infrastructure is part of Consum’s broader logistics expansion in Catalonia. The company has also announced plans for a separate €100 million platform dedicated to fresh, refrigerated, and frozen products, which is expected to be operational by 2027.
