Consum logistics expansion in Barcelona
Overview
The Valencian cooperative Consum is expanding its logistics infrastructure in Catalonia through two major projects in Barcelona’s Zona Franca.
Initially, the cooperative announced a 100 million euro investment to develop a 50,000-square-meter logistics platform specializing in fresh, refrigerated, and frozen goods. This project involves leasing an 80,000-square-meter plot from the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona and Vidriería Rovira, with construction expected to begin in late 2027 and operations starting by the end of 2029. The initiative is projected to create 150 jobs during its first five years.
In a separate development, Consum launched a 12.4 million euro reverse logistics center covering over 9,330 square meters. This facility is designed to manage commercial waste by facilitating the recovery, classification, and reuse of materials, such as cardboard, plastic, pallets, and reusable containers, from its supermarket network.
