Consumer price trends show shifts in Tangier and Tunisia

Consumer price trends show divergent patterns in Tangier and Tunisia. In Tangier, Morocco, the consumer price index fell by 1.1% in July compared to the previous month and 0.2% year-on-year. This decline was primarily driven by a 1.9% drop in food prices, with significant decreases in vegetables (-6.5%), fruits (-5.4%), and seafood (-2.1%). Non-food products also saw a 0.4% monthly decrease, led by a 1.7% drop in transport costs.

In contrast, Tunisia reported a consumer inflation rate of 5.4% for August. This was driven by rising costs in the food, beverage, and health sectors. Year-on-year, food and beverage prices rose by 7.5%, fueled by increases in poultry (16.5%), sheep meat (14.7%), and fruits (14.4%). Additionally, manufactured goods rose by 4.7% annually, while services increased by 4.3%, largely due to a 15.6% rise in hotel service prices.
