Consumer protection agencies in Lebanon and Egypt increase market inspections
Consumer protection authorities in Lebanon and Egypt have reported significant enforcement actions against market violations.
In Lebanon, the Consumer Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Economy and Trade announced that it conducted 18,172 field inspections from the beginning of the year until October 2. These inspections resulted in 924 violation reports. The directorate also processed 1,925 consumer complaints via its digital services application during this period. In a single week between September 28 and October 2, the department responded to 190 complaints and carried out 492 inspections, leading to 37 violation reports.
In Egypt, the Consumer Protection Agency conducted a raid on a warehouse in the Al-Badrashein center of Giza governorate. Authorities seized approximately 2,000 automotive filters, including oil, air, and fuel filters, of unknown origin. Many items featured incorrect technical data or false information regarding their country of origin. Ibrahim El-Seginy, head of the Consumer Protection Agency, emphasized that seizing such parts is a regulatory priority because substandard filters can compromise vehicle engine efficiency and safety.
