ICTSI's Contecon Manzanillo cleared for ultra-large container ships

Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA), a Mexican subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has secured regulatory approval to handle ultra-large container vessels at the Port of Manzanillo. The authorization allows the terminal to accommodate ships with drafts of up to 15.5 meters and lengths of up to 400 meters, including vessels capable of carrying 24,000 TEUs. CMSA is currently the only operator at the port with this capability.

This milestone is part of a multi-phase expansion program. Following the completion of Phase 3A in 2025, the terminal's annual capacity reached approximately 1.8 million TEUs. The company is now progressing with Phase 3B, which includes adding 227 meters of quay and acquiring new cranes, with the goal of eventually reaching an annual capacity of 2 million TEUs and an operational draft of 17 meters.

Separately, the Puerto de Posorja in Ecuador, operated by DP World, has reached a milestone of over four million TEUs moved since beginning operations seven years ago. The terminal maintains a leading market share in Ecuador and has been recognized for its efficiency in the South American region.
