Contracting disputes arise in Dominican school lunch bids and Peruvian infrastructure projects

In the Dominican Republic, the National Institute of Student Welfare (INABIE) is facing renewed allegations of irregularities regarding school lunch supply contracts. For the 2026-2028 school years in San Pedro de Macorís, contracts exceeding RD$1,900 million were awarded. Legal representatives for 11 affected companies claim that 15 firms previously disqualified for failing to meet requirements were ultimately awarded contracts totaling over RD$445 million. One specific case involves a contract worth over RD$31 million awarded to an individual despite reports indicating the submission of false documentation.

In Peru, suppliers and subcontractors have staged protests at the Boca del Río to Tacna highway construction site due to unpaid debts. Protesters, representing more than ten companies, claim the Consorcio Vial Sama owes them more than S/ 3 million for services rendered. Demonstrators reported that some invoices have remained unpaid for up to 120 days, forcing businesses to take out loans to maintain operations. The consortium includes Gezhouba Group Company Limited and Construcción y Conservación del Norte S.A.C.
