Conxemar 2026 seafood fair opens in Vigo with global industry leaders

The 27th edition of Conxemar, a major international frozen seafood trade fair, is being held in Vigo, Spain. The event features 836 exhibitors from 47 countries and serves as a global showcase for the maritime industry.

Spanish officials, including Isabel Artime, Secretary General of Fisheries, emphasized the strength of the Spanish aquaculture and fishing sectors, noting Spain's leadership in the EU. Regional leaders like Alfonso Rueda highlighted Galicia's significant role, accounting for 34% of Spanish fish processing companies and 48% of the sector's turnover.

Argentina is also prominently represented through the 'Mar Argentino' pavilion, with delegations from Chubut and national agencies promoting products like Patagonian shrimp and hake. The fair includes the Conxemar FAO MAPA International Congress, which addresses global challenges such as digital traceability, artificial intelligence, and the need for fair international competition.

Social initiatives are also integrated into the event, with the Provincial Food Bank Foundation organizing a solidarity operation to collect and redistribute food surpluses from exhibitors to vulnerable populations in the province.
